The Youth Rock Orchestra Music Camp was created to serve students studying violin, viola, cello and string bass with a day camp for exploring rock and contemporary styles of music through technology, improvisation and collaborative music making.

When:

Offered as a part of Camp Cannon, a service of Cannon School. The 5 day camp will occur from July 17-21, 2017, 5 days with a concert at the end of the 5th day.

Where:

The Cannon School: 5801 Poplar Tent Road, Concord North Carolina, 28027.

Who:

Rising 7th graders through rising 12th graders. Previous playing experience required. Students must have at least 9 months of private or group instruction on one string instrument prior to attending camp.

What:

Students will participate in rock orchestras, play electric violins, violas and cellos, learn from experienced alternative style musicians, play challenging and fun rock arrangements, and learn to improvise and become familiar with the technology driving the music industry in the modern age. Students will learn to appreciate the versatility and beauty of their string instruments as they participate in a variety of music styles that originate in the USA.

What to bring:

Students bring their own instruments, which can include electric bowed instruments if they have them. All students need at least the acoustic version of their instrument. Additional information provided after registration.

What the camp provides:

Electric bowed instruments to try, iPads for composing, instrument rentals as needed, technology, safe facilities and use of the new state of the arts performance hall at Cannon School.
